Karl Lagerfeld… Karleidoscope

Karl Lagerfeld presents his new feminine fragrance named Karleidoscope this fall. We have been waiting for a new release since 2008 when the Kapsule collection was launched (including fragrances Floriental, Light and Woody).

“Karleidoscope reveals not only the diversity of a muse, it reveals the aura of each individual woman!” announced Karl Lagerfeld.

I love this!  Great name, great marketing.  Can’t wait to smell this one.  Although, I know the price points are probably going to land this on Anderson Cooper’s CNN Ridiculist!  The fragrance combines classic elegance with modernity described as noble, bold, sensual and passionate. It opens with green notes of angelica and soft tones of violet. The heart blends heliotrope, freesia and patchouli notes, laid at the warm base of benzoin and tonka.  I’ll be looking for it on store shelves just to see this bottle and of course to get a whiff…  Click on the perfume to enlarge the picture.

His name is even in the French Dictionary.  That’s like Webster’s publishing the word “Vilma” in the dictionary, lol.  Hmmm what would the definition be…?  What would the definition be if it was your name…? 

 

 

 

Wonderstruck… by Taylor Swift

 

TS talks about the combination of scents that make up her new perfume named Wonderstruck. …sniffing various scents during the creation process, hoping to arrive at just the right blend…  she enjoys vanilla, caramel and berry aromas. “In making this perfume, it was such an amazing process in picking the things I liked, like berries,” she says. “Berries smell nice, let’s put more of those in there!”

Swift explains that Wonderstruck is not just a fragrance, but an artistic creation with meaning behind it: “I think you can tell a story in song, you can tell a story through movies, you can tell a story through writing. You can kinda tell a story that connects memories together when you’re creating a perfume that people are going to wear in their day-to-day lives.”

Mr. Joseph Jackson to Launch Fragrance in Memory of Michael

Joseph Jackson to celebrate the upcoming launch of JRP-Jackson, a tribute perfume line in memory of  Michael.  A portion of proceeds from the new fragrance line will be donated to charities favored by Michael.

Mr. Jackson’s press conference at Cannes  unveiled exclusive details about the luxury his-and-hers fragrance line, which includes “Tribute” and “Legend,” as well as an upcoming unisex fragrance; both “eau de parfums,” which are currently being manufactured and bottled in Grasse, France, will make their official debut with “A Night to Remember,” the JRP-Jackson launch party on June 9, 2011 at Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.

Mélange: French for “To Mix”

August Atelier Bespoke Collection offers you a fun and fragrant fantasy as the history of parfum comes to life.  As we begin our melange below is a guide for connoissieurs of fine fragrance.

Aquatic:   Perfumes in this family are made up entirely of synthetic ozone-like materials.  They can smell like the ocean, clean air and freshness with other influences like light fruity or floral notes.  Great examples are Eau D’Issey Miyaki and Egyptian Musk.

Chypre:   These are generally built on outdoor type accords of bergamot, oakmoss, patchouli and labdanum.  A good example is Knowing by Estee Lauder.

Citrus:   These types of perfumes contain fresh citrus notes that are commonly used in a lot of men’s colognes.  A famous example is Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger.

Floral:   These classes of perfumes are dominated by one or several types of Flowers or “Fleurs as in Paris.”  A famous example is Diorissimo by Christian Dior. It’s time for you to become the Designer… you decide what classifications speak to your style.

Floriental:   The perfumes in this family contain deep floral notes, spices and rich bases like amber, musk and woods.  Tresor by Lanĉome comes to mind.  Oh I just love this stuff. It makes me want to take another trip to Paris next week.

Fougère:  These types have sharp herbaceous notes built on a base of lavender, coumarin and oakmoss.  Davidoff did it with Cool Water and Halle by Halle Berry uses lots of coumarin.

Fruity:  Lauren by Ralph Lauren and Island Kiss by Escada uses this category of intensely fruity & fresh notes.

Green:  The color of August as in Peridot. Evokes memories of fresh cut grass, green leaves mixed with herbaceous notes like galbanum, lavender, rosemary, pine, etc. One of my true favorites Gio by Giorgio Armani. We Bespoke your favorites in a pure alcohol-free non-parabenic blend.

Leather:  Well defined deep notes of honey, tobacco, wood and wood tars in their middle or base notes reminiscent of leather.

Modern / Aldehydic:  These scents contain a type of aroma chemicals known as aldehydes.  They have an airy tone to them and get stronger as they are warmed by the skin.  The most famous of all:  Chanel No. 5 by Madamoiselle herself (actually by Edward Gainic the creator de parfumeur who designed the fragrance for the House of Chanel).

Orientals or Ambers:  These perfumes can have pronounced notes of resins, spices, vanilla, animal notes, flowers and woods.  Think Shalimar by Guerlain.

Spicy:   Scents in this family contain spicy notes, floral notes and musk.  Joop! Homme by Joop!

Woody:   These types of perfumes are dominated by woody notes like sandalwood, Vetiver also spelled Vetyver depending upon what part of the universe in which it is derived, cedarwood, etc.  Loved by Ralph Lauren and perhaps To Be Loved by you.
